54-yr-old mother of 6 arrested for ingesting 60 wraps of heroin

THE Airport Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 54-year-old widow and mother of six for allegedly ingesting 60 wraps of heroin at the international wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMIA), Lagos.

The command also arrested a 45-year-old man for ingesting 93 wraps of cocaine during the outward boarding of a Lufthansa flight to Frankfurt, Germany.

Briefing reporters on the arrest, the NDLEA Airport Commander, Garba Ahmadu, explained that the 54-year-old woman had, with difficulty, excreted 28 wraps out of the 60 ingested, saying her life was in danger because of the remaining wraps still in her system.

Ahmadu noted that the woman, Alhaja Sulaimon Kudirat Adunni, who hails from Abeokuta, Ogun State, a day after her arrest on October 26, developed complications, vomited two more wraps of the substance following irritation and stomach discomfort.

According to the NDLEA boss, the woman coughed intermittently before vomiting the substance, after which she fainted.

Ahmadu said: “She was promptly rushed to the Lagos State University Teaching hospital (LASUTH).

“The suspect was examined by a team of medical specialists, ultrasound scan performed and CT scan was later recommended, which was immediately carried out on the suspect.”

He said after the suspect was certified stable, she was taken back to custody for further investigation in order to unravel other possible associates linked to the case.

Ahmadu assured that the suspect had been kept under strict observation for possible excretion of the remaining 32 wraps.

The second suspect, Adindu Obinna Hyacinth, from Nnewi, Anambra State, was said to have excreted the 93 wraps ingested, as one was even in the process of bursting in his stomach.

“In the process of excretion, the suspect made the first excretion of 35 wraps of suspected hard drugs and it was observed that one of the wraps excreted was almost unwrapping.

“The management promptly referred the suspect for medical attention at LASUTH. He was observed at the hospital by a team of medical specialists and later administered some medications.

“Subsequently, he excreted a total of 93 wraps of suspected hard drugs with a total weight of 1,620 kilogrammes.”

Alhaja Adunni, while speaking, declared that she was given the drug to take to London by one Mukaila, who was introduced to her by a friend.

She said she was promised N1 million for the assignment, claiming that was her first time.

Hyacinth, however, said he decided to carry the drugs to make up for his N6 million that was stolen.

According to him, he was promised 3,000 euros by one Chuks if he was able to take the drugs to Frankfurt in Germany.
