The suspects were reportedly arrested by the operatives of the Inspector General of Police Intelligence Response Team.
The team, led by Abba Kyari, an assistant commissioner of police was reportedly directed by the Inspector General of the Nigeria Police Force, Ibrahim Idris to go after the kidnappers.
It was gathered that the suspects were around 4 pm on Tuesday arrested in Benin, Edo State, where they were tracked to.
One of the arrested suspects had reportedly been injured in a recent gun battle with operatives of the IGP team.
Two other members of the gang had gone to Benin to visit the injured member of their gang, when the police swooped on them.
A top police source at the police high command said “On May 30, 2017, at about 4.pm, sequel to the deployment of Special Intelligence Response Team by IGP Ibrahim Idris in follow-up to the Kidnapping of the school children in Epe, three of the militant Kidnappers who left the creek and came to Benin to visit one of their members that was injured in a recent gun battle with security agents were arrested by IRT in Benin.”
The police source identified the suspects as: Egelu Endurance aka Jubby 25-yrs a native of Abere town in Ovia South Local Council Area of Edo State, Stanley Yomi Irabomini aka Powei 25, from Ovia South LGA of Edo State, Bentel Endurance 24, also from Ovia South LGA Edo State.”
The police source also added that “The suspects confessed to have participated in various Kidnappings of prominent personalities in Lagos and Ogun State including the Oniba of Iba Kidnapping, Turkish School Kidnapping, Isheri Landlord Kidnapping and Epe School Children Kidnapping.
According to the police, the suspects claimed that they came to Benin to see their injured colleague and relax for a while before going back to the creek.
