The Southern Kaduna People Union (SOKAPU) women’s wing has urgently urged Governor Uba Sani to take decisive action to rescue individuals currently held by abductors across the state.

SOKAPU National Women Coordinator, Mrs Jemutu Katarma, issued a statement in Kaduna emphasising the need for Governor Sani to leverage his positive rapport with security leaders, such as Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Christopher Musa, to facilitate the safe return of those in captivity to their families.

The Southern Kaduna People Union (SOKAPU), women’s wing, has called on Governor Uba Sani to take drastic steps to rescue many people who are in the hands of their abductors in different parts of the state.

The SOKAPU National Women Coordinator, Mrs Jemutu Katarma, in a statement in Kaduna on Monday, advised Governor Uba Sani to explore the good working relationship he enjoys with the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, and other security chiefs and do all it would take to return the abductors to their families.

She noted, “Out of the 12 local government areas of Southern Kaduna, only three have not suffered violence and crimes from armed groups, especially bandits and armed herdsmen. Thousands have been killed, houses have been burned, and hundreds have been kidnapped.

“Hundreds of our villages have been sacked, and some have been taken over by bandits. Even the immediate past government of the state has been reporting these atrocities to the press every quarter each year.”

She said that on October 2, 2023, in Kachuwe, close to Sarkin Pawa in Niger State, bandits killed 13 male adults and a young girl.

The statement added that the bandits completely burned down the village and took away 14 youths, mostly children between the ages of three and 10.

Again, on Saturday, October 7, 2023, according to the statement in Chikuri village, in Chikun LGA, bandits entered Maikudi farms where villagers were working and kidnapped 14 women and a boy.

The statement explained, “Therefore, we can confirm that at least 27 women and girls and four boys who are citizens of Kaduna State from Chikun LGA are in the hands of kidnappers, with one already dead.”

The statement explained that others have been in the hands of the bandits for months, saying that many villages have been completely destroyed by the bandits, while many people have fled to other places for their safety.
