Former women leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara state, Hajia Sarat Adebayo, has declared her intention to contest for Kwara Central senatorial seat in 2023 general elections.
Speaking during the event in Ilorin, Hajia Adebayo said that she desired to contribute towards effecting the desired changes needed to put the country back on track.
“With the current pitiable situation we find ourselves as a nation in the hands of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) government, I have decided to offer myself for service as a federal lawmaker to effect the desired changes we need to put the country back on track.
“Having consulted widely and come to the realization that the only political party which prioritise women’s interest and inclusion in the political process is the Saraki political structure and the PDP.
“It is on this note with great honour, I notify you of my intention to humbly present myself to run for the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as Senator representing Kwara central senatorial district come 2023 under the umbrella of our great party, PDP.”
Also speaking, the State PDP chairman, Hon. Babatunde Mohammed, warned all aspiring political office holders in 2023 to carry out their campaigns devoid of disparaging comments against one another.
The party also said that aspirants’ campaigns should not be spiced with inflammatory and derogatory words capable of destroying the peace and unity of the party in the state and Nigeria at large.
“I advise you to warn your well wishers and supporters to go about your campaigns in ways that will not affect the unity of PDP. We don’t want anything that will compromise the peace and unity within the party. Handle your campaigns in way and manner that is friendly to other aspirants,” he said.
The chairman also encouraged aspirants to mobilise youths and women to participate in the ongoing permanent voter’s cards (PVC) registration exercise, adding that that “will be useful for our party, state and Nigeria in the 2023 general elections.”
“Equally, the e-registration of our party that is still ongoing, with the look of things, I think only the members that are registered will be allowed to participate in the primary elections. Mobilise, advise and encourage all to go and register and become bona fide members of PDP.”
