YOUTHS of a non-political organisation and a socio-cultural organisation known as Umuekumenyi have unanimously urged Governor David Umahi to withdraw all the automatic tickets issued to all National Assembly members aspirants from Abakaliki bloc by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in order to save the party from an imminent colossal defeat in the 2019 general elections.
The youths stated this in Abakaliki while commending governor David Umahi for allegedly withdrawing the automatic tickets issued to the members representing Ohaozara,Onicha/Ivo Federal Constituency, Linus Abaa Okorie and his counterpart in Ezza South/Ikwo federal Constituency, Lazarus Ogbee, describing it as a true display of a good democratic governance and sense of responsibility on the part of the governor and call on him to extend the same gesture to the Abakaliki bloc.
According to the leaders of the group, Comrade Orogwu Sunday , in a press conference in Abakaliki, said the people of Umuekumenyi comprising the 8 local government areas in Ebonyi Central and North senatorial zones of the State, rejects the automatic tickets and advised the party to heed to their advice and stands for equity, fairness, and transparency.
“In Ebonyi North Zone, we abhor the issue of an automatic ticket to His Excellency, Senator Sam O. Egwu, and that of Senator Obinna Ogba from Ebonyi central zone respectively. These duos have not performed well at all and we therefore reject and condemn the purported automatic ticket given to them because this single act will not only tear Umuekumenyi people apart but also the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) in this critical time.”
They charged the State working committee of PDP to reconsidered extra-charges on prospective aspirants in order to create room for qualified candidates to emerge and rattle with opposition candidates in the forthcoming general elections as they also cry to the National working committee of PDP as well as other PDP National leaders to come to their aid so that the delegates can be allowed to choose the candidates of their choice with view to ensuring overall victory in 2019 general elections.
“As the youths and representatives of our people, we shall continue to resist any attempt to render our people politically impotent, it should be noted that the so-called automatic ticket in Abakaliki bloc is a mere ploy by some unscrupulous political elements to deny the two populous groups Ezza and Izzi access to power so that minority group will continue to dictate the pace of politics especially as it concerns 2023 gubernatorial election in Ebonyi state.”
