2019: Gana unveils Falae led interim NCW of SDP in Abuja
The Chairman of the Steering Committee of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, Professor Jerry Gana on Thursday named former Minister of Finance and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Chief Olu Falae as the Chairman of the interim National Working Committee, NWC, of the Party.
While unveiling the members of the NWC of the party at a World Press Conference in Abuja yesterday, Gana who was one of the founding fathers of the Peoples Democratic Party declared that “the SDP is for the restructuring, Unity and stability of Nigeria as a nation”.
He stated that the NWC members would be in office till April this year when the Party would hold its National Convention where new officers would finally emerge
Other members of the NWC are: Dr Abdul Ahmed Isiaq, Hon Shehu Musa GAbam- National Secretary who was the Director General of Professor Tunde Adeniran for PDP National Chairman Campaign Organization, Sen Ebenezer Ikeyina, National Vice Chairman( South-Earth), Barrister Supo Sonibare. National Vice Chairman (South- West), Dr Junaid Muhammed, National Vice Chairman (North East). Sen E B Henshaw, Nationa Vice Chairman, Barrister Joseph Abu, National Legal Adviser
Others are; Chief Nnamdi Clarkson- National Treasurer, Barrister Emeka Atuma- National Organizing Secretary, while the. Members of the Communication Tactical Team are: Alhaji Alfa Muhammed. -Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Hon Akinbode Oluyemi- Technical Adviser Publicity Secretary and Hon Adakole Ijogi, former Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Kehinde Ayoola- National Financial secretary, Lady Maryam Batudo- Women Leader and Comrade Stanley Nwaka – Youth Leader.
He assured that the names of other officers would be made known to the public after wide consultations with other stakeholders in due course.
In his remarks, Chief Falae wrote off the two leading political parties in the country, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and the All Progressives Congress, APC as having failed the nation in all ramifications and that the resurrected SDP was out to rescue the nation in the next political dispensation.
Falae who was flanked on the high table by Professors Tunde Adeniran, Jerry Gana, Dr Olu Agunloye ,a former Minister and Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Prof Rufai Ahmed Alkali, a one time National Publicity Secretary of the PDP and former Political Adviser to former President Goodluck Jonathan assured that the Party would hand over good governance to the younger generations who would rebuild the nation in line with the mission of the nation’s founding fathers.
The Former SGF who declared that the Party’s membership was open to all reliable Nigerians, however, vowed that it would not be an all-comers affair as all aspirants for any appointed or elective offices would be screened to the pant to prevent people of questionable characters for polluting the credible alternative governance being promised Nigerians.
He stated that if elected into power any of its member indicted for stealing government money or any act of abuse of office would severely be sanctioned before reporting to the anti-graft agencies.
According to him, ” Today marks the beginning of a new dawn in the anal of Nigeria as a nation, since after Independent, we have been coming and going into one form of crisis or the other which led to the Military incursion into governance, and even after the Military handed over, we have not been able to get our acts right
” The Military created the Social Democratic Party, SDP, along with the National Republican Party, NRC, and the late M K O Abiola won the Presidential election of the June 12, 1993, under the SDP which was later annulled by the Military and the Party banned
” Some of us went to court for the INEC to register the SDP under the new dispensation and until the Supreme Court ruled in our favour And after the ruling, the INEC was still delaying to do the needful but a last the Party was registered
” The sole aim of the Party is for the restructuring, Unity and the stability of the nation, though we are not claiming to be saints but we can say boldly that we have more reliable People who had contributed to the solid development of this country immensely in our fold today
” SDP has died and has resurrected and it a Party to beat but the other two main parties, the APC and PDP are going to die and never to survive again like the SDP”.
Falae also disclosed that a lot of consultations were going on with several groups who were willing to join the fold and that all the outcomes of the talks would be made public at the appropriate time, saying that SDP was a large Moment which would be opened to all reliable Nigerians
He promised that the Manifesto and the mission of the Party. For the nation would be officially unfolded to the public in April at its National Convention.
