2019 elections: Group urges electorate to vote wisely

AHEAD of the general elections, a non-political group, Concern Citizens Forum of Nigeria (CCFN), has urged the electorate to think wisely before casting their votes.

The National Coordinator of (CCFN), Mr Anthony Nwangwu, who spoke on behalf of the group on Monday in Warri, said the call had become necessary if Nigeria must overcome its current predicament.

Nwangwu said the current All Progressive Congress (APC)-led administration had failed the country.

It will be recalled that president Muhammadu Buhari had, on Thursday during the party’s political rallies in Warri, urged Nigerians to vote for APC “from top to bottom.”

The coordinator said the APC government lacked good ideologies and wherewithal to transform the country.

“The APC government has been borrowing money without investing much on capital projects that will bring profits.

“Today, Nigerians is ranked one of the poorest countries in the world because of the wrong policies of the ruling party.

“We need someone with fresh ideas who knows what capitalism and economy are all about.

“The money PDP could not borrow for 16 years when they were in power, the APC government within three years has borrowed that money and they want to come back.

“Today the country is being led by men who do not have integrity. We must vote APC out of government because the party is a cankerworm that is eating into the fabric of the country.

” I can tell you that this administration has no clear cut blueprint as to how to advance this country to the next level,” he said.

Nwangwu said the group support the ideology of restructuring as advocated by the PDP presidential flagbearer, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

“Today we spend all our money on recurrent expenditure, our overhead cost is too expensive.

” This is the reason why Atiku has been talking about restructuring and we are aligning ourselves with him. He is a man that is clamouring for change because he understands the economy.

“Before now, Nigeria was operating a confederation system where we have geopolitical zones and every zone growing at its own pace.

“In any country where there is no competition, you cannot make progress. Today or best brains are leaving the country. we are saying that every unit in Nigeria should be allowed to grow at their own pace,” he said.

Nwangwu said there were five factors that sustained every good government.

According to him, they are the economy; security; ethnic and religious harmony; foreign policy and lastly, protection of the fundamental human rights of the citizens adding this government lacked the above indices.

“When the people are hungry, they will revolt against you. So you must make good policies to attract foreign investment and make your economy stable so that the citizens may be comfortable and the rate is crime will be low.

“A vote for PDP will return the country back to our desired progress, therefore cast your vote wisely,” he said.
