TWO security guards, who allegedly stole their employer’s 67 cartons of imported door handles worth N5.36 million, were on Thursday granted a reprieve on the orders of an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.
The accused — Adam Dauda, 28, and Mohammed Abba, 29 — both residents of Ojota area in Lagos, are standing trial on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
The duo committed the offences on March 23 at Misa Ltd Warehouse, Olusosun, Ojota, Police Prosecutor Raphael Donny told the court.
Donny said the accused were on duty when 67 cartons of foreign door handle valued at N5.36 million were stolen.
“The night the door handles were stolen from the warehouse, the security guards were on duty and could not give a satisfactory
account of the missing items.”
The offences violated Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 provides a penalty of seven years imprisonment while Section 411 stipulates two years.
Both pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs A. O. Adedayo granted them bail of N1 million each with two sureties each in like sum and adjourned the case until April 23 for the mention.
