Speed limiting device will save millions of lives – Unit commander

THE speed limiting device will save millions of Nigerians from untimely death during the ember months, Mr Nnamdi Ikeh-Akabogu, Unit Commander, Federal Road Safety Commission in Pankshin, has said.

The commander made the statement on Wednesday during a rally organised by the commission for drivers in Pankshin Local Government Area of Plateau.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the event was organised in conjunction with Airtel Mobile Telecom Service and NURTW.

“The introduction of the speed limiting device will curtail loss of lives that usually occur from road crashes caused by excessive speeding and over loading.

“Christmas is fast approaching; the rally is aimed at sensitising the public, especially motorists, to the need for them to install the device to preserve their lives and the lives of other commuters,” he added.

Ikeh-Akabogu thanked the management of Airtel Mobil Telecommunication for its partnership with the commission to sensitise the public on the dangers of excessive speeding and over loading.

He called on the NURTW to ensure that their members acquire and install the speed limiting device.

Mr Kingsley Okafor, a vendor of the speed limiting device, listed some of the functions of the device to include, limiting speed, tracking of vehicle and recording events during the journey, among others.

NDLEA commandant in Pankshin, Mr Felix Ossai, while commending the efforts of FRSC, warned motorists against the use of hard drugs while driving.
