Passenger’s leg flung into lagoon in Lagos accident

A passenger’s leg was on Sunday morning flung into the lagoon in an accident that occurred on the Third Mainland Bridge.

More than eight persons were also injured in the accident, which has been blamed on reckless driving by the drivers of the affected vehicles.

The unidentified passenger was immediately rushed to the Gbagada General Hospital, while rescue workers battled to recover the severed leg.

The accident involved two vehicles, commercial bus and Toyota saloon car, which both crashed into the railings by the side of the bridge

The victim was a passenger in the commercial bus was seated in the front seat when the incident happened.

A policeman, who was on patrol along the bridge, when the accident happened told the Metro that the leg was initially dangling on the bridge barrier, before it eventually fell onto the lagoon.

The policeman also blamed the accident on “over speeding and reckless driving by the drivers of the two vehicles.”

RRS riders and monitors at the scene subsequently called for emergency unit to help recover the missing leg.

Recovery effort by the Marine Police and a team of RRS officials is in progress while the man has been moved to Gbagada General Hospital, Lagos.

The vehicles have been moved by LASEMA Response Unit to avoid congestion.
