Senator representing Zamfara Central in the National Assembly, Hassan Mohammad Gusau, has joined the state governor, Bello Mohammed Matawalle in the latter new political platform, the All Progressives Congress.
Senator Gusau formal letter informing the Senate that he has dumped the People’s Democratic Party was read on the floor of the Red Chamber by Senate President, Ahmad Lawan.
Senator Gusau in the letter said there was no internal democracy in the main opposition party and further claimed that it has been heavily polarised in his ward.
“My decision is necessitated due to the collapse of internal democracy and factionalisation of the party from ward levels in Zamfara State.
“Further decisions on political movement and party affiliations will be communicated to this chamber in due course.”
Gusau emerged as Senator in Zamfara sequel to the Supreme Court judgement which stripped all candidates of the APC that won seats in the 2019 general elections of their mandate.
According to the apex court, the ruling party did not conduct the valid primary in line with provisions of the Electoral Act.
In a unanimous judgment of the court, delivered by Justice Paul Galinje, the court ordered candidates of other political parties that came second to take over as the duly elected contestants.
