The Yoruba community in Salvador and other parts of Brazil came alive days back, when they played host to the Ooni Of Ife Oba Enitan Ogunwusi as he, as part of his mission to preserve and propagate the Yoruba culture to the rest of the world, wowed in elegance and style.
With luxuries of clothes and a large red carpet that turned the municipal theatre of Rio de Janiero to a proper African traditional setting, the Ooni, with about 120 entourage that also had popular actor, Saidi Balogun on board, arrived in style to the delight of many, who had waited patiently for the king’s arrival.
Ooni’s mission in Brazil was simple; It was simply to reconnect what was the Yoruba culture with the rest of the world, particularly Brazil, where the culture is well known.
Speaking at the Municipal Theatre, Adeyeye said the love that existed in the world did not exist without God, urging that people must learn how to give love to each other, no matter the circumstances.
Oba Adeyeye dwelt on the importance of togetherness and love and how it helped the world go round. He stressed that, “With love and peace, people will move on. With love and compassion, the world would be a better place. I am happy to meet my people from this part of the world. My spirit is loud and cheerful.”
It was a significant event, especially for the Black community in Rio, as many people trooped out to share their experiences with the King, who, in return, maintained that the African culture, particularly the Yoruba culture, must be preserved and cherished by Nigerians in the Diaspora, adding that racism should always be conquered by love, compassion and oneness.
From Bahia to Salvador to Belo Horizonte, Rio Dejenerio and Sao Paulo, the message was the same, even as actor Saidi Balogun, who accompanied the Ooni disclosed that the mission was to reunite the Yoruba, who were transported to Brazil for slave trade with their source.
According to him, it is necessary to expand the African culture,” Brazil is a lover of culture and we are glad they accepted the African culture as their own. The visit was basically about a father (Ooni) visiting his children in Diaspora on how preserve the culture.”
“We also discussed how we can share the African story using the movie to tell the rest of the world that we are accommodating and loving. We love our culture and we will always put the interest of our people forward all the time”, he said.
