The president of the Advertising Agencies Association of Nigeria (AAAN), Mr. Kayode Oluwasona has said that the inauguration of the Nigeria Chapter of the International Advertising Association (IAA) would go a long way in further enhancing the enhancing the skills of both individuals and corporate organisations in the nation’s advertising space.
Speaking at the inauguration of the chapter in Lagos, recently, the AAAN boss stated that the setting up of the Chapter, would also make interactions between practitioners in the country and colleagues around the globe, much easier.
“We are not seeing any threat, as practitioners, here. Rather, what we are seeing, with the coming of the global body, here, is collaboration, It provides our members the opportunity to acquire knowledge and get exposure, which I think we seriously need. It is an opportunity for us to develop capacity,” he stated.
Oluwasona noted that the global body is becoming bigger; since it is being seen by marketing communications practitioners, all over the globe, as delivering value to individuals and corporate organisations in the profession.

He described the global body as a partnership between marketing companies, communications agencies, media platforms and educational institutions
In his Keynote Address, the Chief Executive Officer of Insight Publicis Nigeria, Mr. Feyi Olubodun, believes the presence of such global advertising body in the country had become imperative; since the time had come for practitioners to raise the stakes of the practice.
He lamented the low skill level in the practice, noting that for the country to effectively compete on the global stage, practitioners must up the ante in the practice.
“We need to get skilled, get paid and stay proud. Unlike in the past, when we had many giants in the practice, we are seeing fewer giants, today. Many of these young practitioners in the industry, today, do not even know how brands are built,” he stated.
In his closing remarks, the Vice President, IAA Nigeria and Chief Executive Officer, Brand Eye Media, Femi Adelusi, believes the coming of the global advertising body will provide leadership of inspiration in the era of enormous change.
