AUTHORITES of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, on Tuesday described as untrue and misleading, speculations that tuition fees of the institution had been increased, saying parents, students and general public should disregard such unfounded information.
Apparently reacting to an online publication that the Senate of the university had given nod to the institution to jack up its fees, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of OAU, Mr Abiodun Olarewaju, in a statement maintained that there was no plan to increase tuition fees.
Describing the publication as malicious, wicked and unprofessional, the statement reads, “the present administration in the university has emphasized, for the umpteen time, that its focus would be the welfare of both staff and students, adding that it has no intention to embark on any decision or policy that can cause avoidable crisis within the university.
“Students are hereby enjoined to disregard the said online publication. We urge them to face their studies squarely and desist from any act that can truncate the academic calendar,” the statement added.
While calling on students to dedicate more time to their academic activities, the university reiterated its commitment to fostering healthy atmosphere capable of shoring up the quality and standard of products of the institution.
