THE Oyo state government has assured of the renovation of the 36 hospitals and upgrade of 722 clinics and posts in the state by May 2019.
To this end, the state government will launch a N50 billion endowment fund in May, to get well-meaning individuals and organisations to contribute to its resolve to transform health delivery in the state.
Commissioner for Health, Dr Azeez Adeduntan who made these disclosures in Ibadan, on Tuesday, added that the state, had just received an intervention of $2 million worth of various medical equipment that had been locked at State hospital, Adeoyo, Ibadan.
This is just as he stated that the state government planned to build a cardiovascular centre at Oyo state general hospital, Ring Road, Ibadan.
“We want to stop medical tourism and we don’t want our hospitals to be mere consulting clinics. We want to bring them to international best standard and this endowment fund of N50 billion will be launched in May, not only in Nigeria but also in the United States, Britain, Dubai and other countries where there are high network individuals who are interested in preserving the health of Nigerians whether they are resident or not.”
“I am supremely confident in the Almighty God that by the terminal date of this administration, we will renovate all hospitals in Oyo state, without exception.”
“We hope to build a cardiovascular centre at Oyo state hospital, Ring Road, Ibadan. The commonest cause of sudden death is heart attack, usually caused by unknown high blood pressure and Nigerians would no longer need to travel out of the country to get their care.”
“We have just received a consignment of $2 million worth of various medical equipment which had been locked up at Adeoyo hospital. This equipment will be spread across all hospitals in the state,” Adeduntan said.
The state has 4 state hospitals, 3 specialist hospitals, 29 general hospitals, 10 dental clinics, 11 state health clinics, 499 primary health care centers, 173 health clinics and 29 health posts.
Meanwhile, state Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr Toye Arulogun has said that the state government would engage Messrs KPMG to audit the account of all tertiary institutions.
This, he said, was with a view to guaranteeing fiscal sustainability and enhancing viability of state-owned tertiary institutions.
