Although, troops along with the civilian Joint Task Force (JTF), have continued clearance operations within Sambisa forest against Boko Haram terrorists, it was gathered that harsh climatic conditions and bad terrain, occasioned by heavy down pour, especially, within Gombale area, have continued to negatively affect the operations.
The Nigerian Tribune gathered that part of the challenges being faced by troops in the forest, include bugging down of vehicles and equipment.
Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman, who is the acting director in charge of Army Public Relations, confirmed this, but said that the troops have, nonetheless, continued with the clearance operations.
He noted that Boko Haram terrorists, attacked troops’ location at Rann, Kala Balge Local Government Area of Borno State.
According to him, the terrorists came with motorcycles loaded with improvised explosive devices, anti-aircraft guns and other weapons, while exchange of fire lasted for some hours before they were overwhelmed by the troops’ firepower.
