Three individuals, one male and two females, were tragically crushed to death between the Adoration Junction and Umuchigbo Market in Emene, Enugu East Local Government Area of Enugu State, on Thursday afternoon around 1 o’clock.
The victims were pedestrians walking along the road when a fast-moving Venza car with Registration Number KUJ 278 CW collided with them, resulting in their immediate death.
An ambulance transported the corpses to an undisclosed mortuary in Emene, while army personnel arrived at the scene shortly afterwards in a patrol vehicle to control traffic and maintain peace in the area.
The driver and other passengers of the vehicle fled the scene, abandoning the badly damaged car and their phones. Their whereabouts remain unknown at the time of this report.
A large crowd gathered to witness the accident scene, and some individuals, believed to be sympathizers and relatives of the deceased, were seen in tears over the tragic incident.
At the time of this report, the police have arrived to tow the vehicle to their Emene station. However, some residents of the area are resisting, expressing their desire to handle the situation in their own way.
The Enugu Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) could not be reached for confirmation.
