The Acting Secretary Health and Human Services Secretariat of the FCTA, Dr Mohammed Kawu has expressed gratitude to the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and its development partners for making available the to FCTA the child health materials.
The Acting secretary who promised to deliver the items to the primary health care centres in the various area councils gave a stern warming to the Head of health departments in the six area councils to ensure that all the items were adequately taken care of and maintained.
The training materials are to be used for health facility’s based clinical skills training for the Primary Health Care workers to support continues learning in the FCT 138 PHC facilities across the six area councils in Territory.” He said.
Dr Kawu maintained that the items will assist tremendously in the conduct of the training for improved clinical competencies of primary healthcare workers in the FCT.
Presenting the items the representative of USAID Dr Oluwadamilola Olaogun expressed pleasure in being part of the handover of the training equipment and supporting documents emphasized that the items which is valued at over Sixty million Naira would enable the FCT Administration to enhance the training of its healthcare workforce.
Dr Olaogun said the training materials among others include: manuals, job aids anatomical models, equipment with the supplies required for practicing skills.
She added that an additional grants worth over Two Hundred Million Naira has been awarded to assist in the training of the usage of the items in the FCT and some other states.
“USAID Integrated Health Programme (IHP) aims at strengthen state capacities to deliver a sustainable continuum of quality reproductive health/ family planning, maternal and neonatal health, child health and nutrition services to reduce maternal and child morbidities and mortalities, which will strengthen health care system in five states of Nigeria which includes Sokoto, Kebbi, Bauchi, Ebonyi and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja.
“This is in line with the memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed in December 2020, for the revitalization of Primary Health Care services in the FCT.”
Also speaking the Leadership and governance Advisor of USAID Integrated Health Programme (IHP) Peter Oshaji said this partnership with government of Nigeria and support from the American people USAID will go long way towards improving the reduction in the preventable maternal and child death in the country and FCT in particular.
USAID through IHP provide technical assistance to the states and the FCT towards achieving universal health coverage through social protection schemes and the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF) that will ensures the provision of quality health services to the poor and the more vulnerable in remote and hard to reach communities of these states.
