Osun State Council of Traditional Rulers, on Friday, suspended Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi for six months over what they termed outstanding disciplinary issues and misconduct acts to Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi and Oluwo of Iwo Oke, Oba Abdulkadir Olatule.
They maintained that the state traditional council cannot afford to fold its hands and allow Oluwo to drag traditional institution in the mud due to his alleged misconduct and indecorum acts.
The meeting, which was presided over by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Ogunwusi became tensed when Oluwo was interjecting Ooni.
Oba Ogunwusi later ordered that Oluwo and Agbowu should excuse them before taking evidence from the AIG on what transpired at his office last week Friday.
Briefing journalists at the end of the emergency meeting of Osun State Council of Traditional Rulers which lasted for more than three hours, the Orangun of Ila Orangun, Oba Wahab Adedotun said Oluwo’s suspension was not in connection with his recent alleged assault against the Agbowu of Ogbaagba, Oba Dhikirulahi Akinropo at the office of the Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Police, Zone 11, Osogbo.
However, Oba Akanbi’s suspension is subject to the ratification of the Osun State government.
Defending himself over the recent alleged attack on Oba Akinropo during the meeting before his suspension, Oluwo contended that he did not punch or slap Agbowu of Ogbaagba at a peace meeting held in the AIG’s office.
The AIG, Zone 11, Mr Bashir Makama, who was also summoned to the meeting corroborated Oluwo’s position, saying there was no physical assault during the meeting, but a serious altercation between Oluwo and Agbowu.
Speaking before the period for Oluwo’s suspension was put to votes among the monarchs, Oba Ogunwusi clarified that his suspension was not as a result of the alleged assault against Agbowu of Ogbaagba, saying the matter was already before the Police and the state government.

While explaining the outcome of the meeting, Orangun of Ila Orangun, Oba Wahab Adedotun said “we didn’t suspend Oluwo over his issue with Agbowu. He was suspended for six months because of his misconduct and disrespectful acts against Alaafin of Oyo, Alake of Egbaland, Ooni of Ife and Oluwo of Iwo Oke.”
“These acts of gross misconduct are enough. He should go and stay at home for six months. He should must respect the traditional institution. He should caution himself with the way he talks to the media on kings in Yorubaland. We have also set up a committee headed by me to resolve the issues Oluwo have with some traditional rulers in Yorubaland”, he stated.
Reacting to his suspension before leaving the venue of the meeting, Oluwo said “I cannot be suspended by anybody. Owa Obokun of Ijesaland didn’t come to this traditional council meeting for two years and nothing happened. I can afford not to come to this meeting forever.”
