The United Nations Deputy Secretary-General, Hajiya Amina Mohammed, has commended Gov. Abba Yusuf of Kano State’s initiatives on installation solar lights on Kano’s streets, the establishment of the Kano Centre for Disease Control, and expansion of health coverage for the informal sector through the state insurance scheme.
She stated that governor remarkable strides in advancing social development and promoting Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), deserved to be commended, adding that all those have enhanced development
Mrs. Amina Mohammed paid a condolence visit to the government and people, following the recent passing of two prominent elder statesmen, Alhaji Aminu Dantata and former President Muhammadu Buhari.
She praised the creation of the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy and the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, reflecting the government’s commitment to climate action and sustainability.
According to a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sunusi Dawakin-Tofa, in Kano on Sunday, the
UN Deputy Secretary-General noted that her visit aimed to deepen advocacy on the SDGs and strengthen collaboration with the State.
She also expressed appreciation for Yusuf’s dedication to women’s empowerment, job creation, and environmental sustainability.
“Kano is like a country, and it should be treated as such in terms of development support,” she said
Earlier, Gov. Yusuf expressed the readiness of the state for strategic partnerships with UN agencies in Nigeria, particularly in education, healthcare, climate change, renewable energy, environmental protection, and sustainable investment.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to advancing development policies that improve the quality of life for the people of Kano and contribute to global development efforts.
