THE Zakat and Sadaqat Foundation (ZSF), last weekend, distributed food items and cash to widows and indigent Muslims in some states of the federation.

In Oyo State, no fewer than 42 persons benefitted from the gesture at an event held in the Bodija area of Ibadan and presided over by the administrative officer of the ZSF in the state, Malam Qasim Durojaye.

The distribution which, according to Durojaye, was in continuation of the ZSF’s Ramadan relief programmes for fasting Muslims that require assistance, was carried out with the support of a United Kingdom-based humanitarian organisation, Human Appeal.

The initiative saw each beneficiary going home with N20,000 worth of rice, beans, garri and palm oil, provided by Human Appeal, and N5,000 cash made available by the ZSF.

Durojaye said: “In Oyo State, we distributed the Ramadan gifts to Muslim widows and indigent faithful in all the four zones of the state, namely, Ibadan, Ogbomosho, Oyo and Iseyin.

“The total number of beneficiaries is 42 and Ibadan, being the central zone, accounted for 27.

“The food items distributed to each beneficiary were worth N20,000 and the funding  was done by Human Appeal. The Zakat and Sadaqat Foundation supported this with a token of N5,000 cash for each of the beneficiaries so that they can have a little relief from the prevailing economic hardship.

“Human Appeal collaborated with the ZSF to put food on the tables of these categories of Nigerian Muslims for some days during the ongoing Ramadan fast. It was an idea geared towards putting smiles on their faces.”
