Two persons, nine vehicles burnt as tanker catches fire in Niger accident

At least two persons have been confirmed killed in a road accident involving a diesel-laden tanker and an articulated vehicle at Enagi town in Edati Local Government Area of Niger State on Sunday.

About nine vehicles including six motorcycles were also razed while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries in the accident that occurred at about 1:00 pm.

A resident in the community who identified himself as Usman Baba Emigi told our correspondent on Sunday in Minna, that three shops were burnt in the fire while no residential building was affected.

He added that fire service personnel from Kutigi in Lavun Local Government Headquarters of the state and personnel of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) were on the ground to put the situation under control.

Meanwhile, the Niger State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Mallam Musa A. Mohammed, told our correspondent over the telephone that “the accident involved a tanker and non-tanker belonging to Dangote Cement which had a head-on collision and so far two dead bodies have been recovered.”

Nigerian Tribune further learnt that several cars and motorcycles affected by the fire were packed by the roadside.
