Food items worth millions of Naira have been distributed to the people of Bauchi State, including traditional rulers, by the Maitama Tuggar Foundation.
The items distributed include bags of rice and sugar, as well as spaghetti, macaroni, and talia for all the 20 LGAs, irrespective of political party affiliation, in the spirit of the ongoing Ramadan fasting by Muslims.
Speaking to journalists at the point of distribution, the Director-General of the Tuggar Foundation, Muhammadu Bello Tukura, explained that the items were donated by friends and associates of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Yusuf Maitama Tuggar.
He added that businessmen and marketers in Bauchi State were the ones who procured and supplied the items in an effort to boost their outlets and promote local business development.
According to him, “The items are meant to alleviate the tough situation people are presently going through due to the harsh economic downturn across the country. At least, they will take care of the immediate need for food.”
He added that the items are for every citizen of the state, irrespective of political affiliation, stressing, however, that APC members will be given top preference.

Bello Tukur added, “These items are for Muslims because this is the Ramadan month of Muslim fasting. The items are meant to enable them to have means of breaking their fast for the period.”
He added that the Foundation also considered the traditional institution as key players in the peaceful coexistence of the people of the state, so they have been included in the distribution.
The DG assured that the exercise has no political undertones as it is purely in service to humanity as a means of support to the less privileged members of the public.
In his brief remarks, the Personal Assistant to the Minister, Mohammed Tilde, commended the DG of the Tuggar Foundation, Bello Tukura, for being a dependable ally to Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, saying such people are very rare to find.
The PA corroborated the DG that the exercise does not have any political inclination but rather, it is an avenue to support citizens to live a better life in the midst of the economic recession in the country.
He assured that the Foundation will continue to be supportive of the Minister in seeing that people are empowered to have a source of livelihood.
Some of the LGA Coordinators of the Tuggar Foundation who spoke to journalists expressed happiness that they can confidently go back to their respective areas to meet the people and deliver the items.
They assured that the targeted people will be reached and given the items as directed, stressing that the distribution will be free and fair, devoid of any political attachment.
