…as Dami Laylo set to release new single ‘Lay lo’

As Afrobeats continues to strengthen its global presence, independent record labels are playing an increasingly significant role in shaping the sound and direction of the genre. Among these emerging players is TryTaped Recordings Limited, a Lagos-based outfit gaining attention for its studio-driven approach to artist development and music production.

Positioning itself as a platform for nurturing talent, TryTaped Recordings has contributed to a number of recent releases, including “Kigoma” by Dami Laylo and “Lawless” and “Yana” by Urktave. These projects reflect the label’s focus on consistency, creative discipline and a commitment to refining the artistic identity of its acts.

The company is led by Onyiyechi Gift Amadi, also known as AfroYana, with production spearheaded by Urktave. Together, they are building a system that prioritises sound quality, innovation and global competitiveness within Nigeria’s evolving music landscape.

In line with this vision, the label has announced the forthcoming release of a new single titled “Lay Lo” by Dami Laylo, scheduled for April 10, 2026. The track blends elements of Afrobeats, Afropop and Afro-fusion, delivering a melodic and emotionally driven sound designed to appeal to both local and international audiences.

Produced by Urktave, the single underscores TryTaped’s emphasis on sonic detail and contemporary sound design, areas that are becoming increasingly important as Nigerian music competes on a global stage.

Speaking on the philosophy behind the label’s approach, AfroYana emphasised the importance of personal growth and discipline in the creative process. According to her, success in the industry goes beyond talent, requiring a strong sense of self-awareness and continuous improvement.

The release of “Lay Lo” will coincide with the relaunch of the company’s official website, marking another step in its expansion strategy as it seeks to broaden its reach beyond Nigeria.

With independent labels like TryTaped Recordings contributing to the diversity and quality of Afrobeats, the genre’s continued rise appears to be supported not only by established stars but also by a new generation of creative entrepreneurs working behind the scenes.
