The Nigerian Tribune won three awards at the 24th edition of Nigeria Media Merit Award (NMMA), after receiving nominations in four categories.
At the event which took place at the Federal Palace Hotel in Lagos on Sunday night, Editor Saturday Tribune, Mr Lasisi Olagunju won the Newspapers Columnist of the Year award.
Dare Adekanmbi won the Political Reporter of the Year award, while Segun Adebayo won the Investigative Reporter Reporter of the Year award.
Tribune Group Business Editor, Mr Sulaimon Olanrewaju, became a runner up in the Brand and Marketing Reporter of the Year award which he won at the last year’s event.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the NMMA Board of Trustees, Mr. Vincent Maduka, said the award was designed to reward excellence in journalism.
He hinted that new media would be included as a category from next year.
Also, the Chairman of the NMMA Panel of Assessors, Prof. Ralph Akinfeleye, said a total of 894 entries were received from 656 entrants, which he said, was five per cent less than submissions from the previous year.
“The entries lacked the depth of what we love to read and the quality of entries was not significantly different from those of last year,” Akinfeleye said.
