Travellers plying the Akure-Benin highway have raised alarm over the collapse of a section of the road in Ifon community in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo state.
The travellers and residents of the community said the road collapsed as a result of heavy flooding in the area.
A community leader, Akin Enitan said the youth from the community had to mobilise and block the road to prevent motorists from falling into the ditch.
He noted that the road would soon be abandoned as water from the other side of the road has damaged it..
Some motorists said the only option to ply between Akure and Benin was to take a long journey through Ore to connect the Benin-Lagos highway.
All attempts to speak to the officials of the Federal Road Maintenance Agency in Akure were not successful.
