Ahead of his departure for India to attend the G20 Summit, President Bola Tinubu met on Monday with the service chiefs and other heads of security agencies.

The meeting at the presidential villa in Abuja was attended by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa; the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja; his Navy counterpart, Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla; and the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar.

Also in attendance at the closed-door meeting were some ministers, including that of defence, Abubakar Badaru.

The security heads were said to have used the opportunity to brief the president on the current security situation in the country.

Tinubu was expected to depart Abuja shortly after the security meeting to attend the G-20 Leaders’ Summit in New Delhi, India, on the special invitation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, according to the Presidency.

He will participate in and deliver keynote addresses at both the Nigeria-India Presidential Roundtable and the Nigeria-India Business Conference on the sidelines of the summit, which takes place between September 9 and 10 of this month.

The presidency had explained that the Chief Executive Officer Roundtable would be attended by leading industrialists in the Indian private sector and Nigerian industrialists, as well as senior government officials from both countries.

According to the statement by Ajuri Ngelale, special adviser to the president on media and publicity, Tinubu’s intention is to leverage the platform to attract global capital and promote increased foreign direct investments in key labour-intensive sectors of Nigeria’s economy for job creation and revenue expansion.
