Teachers, students laud lawmaker over school transformation

Teachers, students and community members of Government Technical College, Ayadehe in Itu Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State have expressed appreciation to the lawmaker representing Itu/Ibiono Ibom Federal Constituency, Hon. Ime Bassey Okon, for fulfilling his promise, as he equipped the six-classroom block he earlier facilitated for the school.

The beneficiaries said the delivery of classroom furniture, electrical fittings and ceiling fans has changed the learning environment and restored confidence in public representation.

Principal of the school, Elder John Etim Bassey, described Okon as a man of his word, noting that the timely furnishing of the classrooms was done even earlier than expected. He said the facility has given the school a new image and boosted morale among staff and students.

A teacher, Mr. Donald Edet, said many members of the community initially doubted the project would be completed beyond the construction phase. “Parents thought it was just another political promise, but today we are sitting in furnished, wired classrooms with fans. The students, teachers and community are grateful,” he said.

Students who spoke to the Nigerian Tribune described the new classrooms as comfortable and conducive, saying they now feel valued and better positioned to learn.

Community members also commended the lawmaker for going beyond building structures to ensure they are functional, urging others in public office to emulate the gesture.

Hon. Okon appealed to the school and host community to take ownership of the project and protect the facilities to ensure sustained use.

The six-classroom block was facilitated, constructed and furnished by the lawmaker as part of his interventions in educational development in Itu/Ibiono Ibom Federal Constituency.
