Tansian Varsity appoints Victor Umeh as Chancellor

Senator Victor Umeh, who represents Anambra Central Senatorial District, has been appointed as the Chancellor of Tansian University Umunya in Anambra State.

The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof Eugene Nwadialor, along with a delegation from the institution’s management, visited Umeh’s residence in Aguluizigbo, Anaocha Local Area, to present him with the letter of appointment.

The Vice-Chancellor stated that Umeh’s track record and accomplishments as a great achiever and advocate for people’s freedom and rights were the basis for his appointment.

He mentioned that Umeh had previously been involved with the university as one of the first recipients of an honorary doctorate degree from Tansian University.

The Vice-Chancellor further explained that Tansian University is a faith-based institution founded by the late Prof John Bosco Akam. Following Akam’s passing, His Eminence Most Reverend Cardinal Peter Okpalaeke took on the role of mentoring the university.

Cardinal Okpalaeke has served as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Visitor, and Chancellor of the university, ensuring its continued progress.

The university’s board recently decided that, in line with the separation of functions, the position of Chancellor should be given to a worthy individual from the local community.

After a diligent search, they found Umeh to be deserving of the position.

In response, Umeh expressed his gratitude for the honour bestowed upon him by the university. He admitted that he had believed such positions were typically reserved for revered monarchs like the Obi of Onitsha and Eze Uzu Awka.

Umeh acknowledged the decline of many public universities and pledged to make a difference as the Chancellor of Tansian University.

Tansian University (TANU) is a private Christian university located in Umunya, Oyi Local Government Area, Anambra State. It initially began in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area as a temporary site before the permanent site was established in Umunya.

The university was founded by the late Rev Msgr Prof John Bosco Akam.
