A suspected armed robber has been killed during a gunfire exchange with men of Bauchi State Police Command while trying to rob a filling station located in Miri an outskirt of Bauchi metropolis along Bauchi – Jos road.
According to a press release signed and issued by the Command PPRO, DSP Kamal Datti Abubakar, the incident happened on Sunday at about 8 pm when the robbers attacked the AYM Shafa filling station with the intention of robbing them of the day’s sales.
According to the statement, the prompt action of the Police follows the review of its strategy and deployment to ensure the safety of lives and property in Bauchi State, under the leadership of CP Habu A. Sani was able to foil the attempted armed robbery in Bauchi.
The statement contained that, “On 22/09/2019 at about 2000hrs, the Command received a distress call from Shafa filling station situated at Miri village along Bauchi – Jos road, Bauchi, that a gang of suspected armed robbers numbering about five armed with AK-47 rifles and other dangerous weapons stormed the aforementioned filling station with intent to rob them of their sales proceeds and other valuables. On receipt of the report, the Command promptly mobilised its tactical teams attached to Operation Puff Adder to the area”.
“However, on sighting the Police teams, the suspects engaged them in a gun battle, but they were overpowered by the superior firepower of the Police and one of the suspects was shot during the battle while the rest were suspected to have escaped with bullets wounds. The suspect was rushed to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital for treatment but was later confirmed dead by Medical Doctor”, the statement further contained.
According to the PPRO, the Exhibits recovered from the suspects include: One AK-47 rifle with 25 rounds of live 7.62mm ammunition
While the case is under investigation the PPRO disclosed that no causality was recorded from the Police or any innocent member of the public just as effort is on top gear to arrest the fleeing suspects.
