Ahead of Saturday’s bye-election in Surulere 1 federal constituency, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Lagos State said on Sunday that non-sensitive materials for the poll had been moved to local government areas where the poll will be held.

The seat of the constituency became vacant following the appointment of the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Honourable Femi Gbajabiamila as the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu..

The Public Affairs Officer of INEC in Lagos State, Mrs Adenike Oriowo, confirmed to the Nigerian Tribune on Sunday that all the non-sensitive materials were already at the concerned local government areas.

She said all necessary arrangements were being made, including training for its ad hoc staff for the conduct of the election.

According to her, the three-day programme, which commenced on Friday, was concluded on Sunday.

“All preparations are in top gear for the Saturday bye-election in Surulere 1 Federal Constituency. Non-sensitive materials are at the local government while training of the ad hoc staff which commenced on Friday has ended today, Sunday.

“Further, the collection and distribution of sensitive materials for the election will commence on the eve of the bye-election.

“There is going to be another training of the ad hoc staff on the eve of the election, to be followed by an onward distribution of sensitive materials on the day of the election,” Oriowo said.
