The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his victory at the Supreme Court.

The National Chairman of the party, Barrister Sylvester Ezeokenwa, disclosed the congratulatory message while speaking with members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) during a courtesy visit at the APGA zonal Secretariat in Awka on Friday. He equally charged the President to urgently seek out possible ways to alleviate the hardships Nigerians are currently facing as a result of the fuel subsidy removal.

Ezeokenwa said the Supreme Court’s verdict on the petitions filed against Tinubu by Obi of LP and Atiku of PDP showed that Tinubu won the February 25, 2023 presidential elections. He urged the opposition parties and other Nigerians to join hands with Tinubu to develop the country.

However, he lamented the economic hardships that Nigerians are currently experiencing across the country. He called on the President to set up an investigative panel to probe those behind the subsidy regime in previous administrations.

According to the APGA Chairman, the removal of the subsidy on petrol has hit ordinary Nigerians harder than the government envisioned.

“During his inaugural speech on May 29, President Bola Tinubu announced that ‘fuel subsidy is gone.’ As a result of that announcement, small business owners in the country have seen their businesses shrink as they struggle to cope with the sharp increase in the price of petrol. There is a high cost of goods and services in our markets. Many investors are closing down their investment hubs in the country.

The President has started well going by his policies. He should make sure he fulfills up to 50% of his campaign promises and works towards moving the country forward. He should endeavor to implement at least 50 percent of the programs in his development agenda.

“If the President can implement up to 50 percent of his programs, the nation will witness rapid transformation in the near future.”

“So, I urge the President to urgently provide solutions as soon as possible,” he stated.

The Chairman also noted that APGA has positioned itself in a vantage position to win more elective positions in the country during the next electioneering period. He urged journalists to always respect the principle of objectivity in their reporting, adding that journalists, as truly watchdogs of the society, have a vital role to play in nation-building.
