Students, stop cohabiting in schools

I T has become a common practice among students, especially in institutions of higher learning, to live comfortably with each other without being legally married. This is called ‘couple’s life.’ Apparently, much pleasure is derived from this practice despite the dangers attached to it.

If our youths  are ignorant of the dangers of cohabitation, how about our parents and guardians? What are they doing to eradicate this abhorrent practice? I understand the fact that most parents are completely ignorant about how their wards live in schools. Ignorance shouldn’t however be an excuse. I want to implore our parents and guardians to watch and monitor their children and wards extensively. They should make their children and wards their best friends and also make themselves available to see them as confidants.

They should also find out time to educate them on the possible dangers of cohabitating, educating them on the appropriate time when living with the opposite sex is socially acceptable. After all, everything has its own time.  And to the youth:  let’s stop endangering our future, let’s be gradualists and not radicals.

Life requires a step before the other. We have no excuse whatsoever to opt for cohabitation, not even our backgrounds, because our destiny lies in our hands and we alone can direct our destiny. It is either we build it or we crush it. The practice of cohabitation is capable of terminating our good plans for the future as we begin to get ourselves burdened about things that are ideally not for our age and maturity level.

Apparently, ladies that fall victim of this practice get more affected than the men because when you begin to see yourself as a wife, you will want to carry out all the duties expected of a wife. As a result, you lose focus and fail to achieve your goals.

Findings have been made that men hardly lose focus; they end up losing nothing when they cohabitate. It has also been observed by researchers on the subject that most students that engage in cohabitation do not end up getting  married to each other. And even if they eventually do, they do not live happily ever after, as they have already lost that value and respect that a marriage should be based on.

The men especially do not feel that newness associated with fresh marriages any longer. Therefore, what is the essence of cohabitation among students?

I urge the youth to think more of the future in any step they take today. They should strive to maintain a moderate, single life for a better future with the right man or woman that has been destined for them.
