Stanbic IBTC extends adopt-a-school program to Niger, reaffirms commitment to public education

To raise the standard and boost education development in public schools in Nigeria, Stanbic IBTC Holdings has extended its Adopt-A-School Innitiative program to Wasiri Primary School in Niger State.

The company had before now adopted six public schools in various states of the federation including Ogun, Akwa Ibom, Ekiti, Sokoto, Borno, and Gombe, bringing the total number of schools so far adopted by the organisation to seven nationwide.

By adopting a school as part of social intervention efforts, Stanbic IBTC Holdings takes responsibilities of totally changing the face of the adopted schools by refurbishing their dilapidated structures, constructing new ones, providing other essential needs as may be required to make learning and teaching worthwhile.

At Wasiri Primary School, which is the latest intervention, the company renovated two blocks of classrooms, built a computer laboratory and 12 modern toilets, provided 120 pieces of classroom furniture, planted many trees and also upgraded the football pitch and so forth.

These interventions are expected to benefit in the long run, no fewer than 1,000 students and 117 teachers directly, equipping them with the requisite resources to achieve their full potential.

The projects have been completed and handed over to the school recently with some top government officials including Muhammad Baba Ibrahim, who is the Chairman of the Niger State Universal Basic Education Board (NSUBEB) and Aminu Ladan, the Local Government Chairman as well as Hajia Hadiza Shuru(representative of the state governor’s wife) in attendance.

Their presence underscored the crucial role of community engagement in advancing educational development in Niger State.

Speaking about the adoption, Kunle Adedeji, who is an acting Chief Executive of Stanbic IBTC Holdings, expressed happiness over the scheme, emphasising the tremendous impact of the intervention on the direct beneficiaries and also public education in general.

He pointed out that the long-term benefits of the scheme are unquantifiable.

According to him, Adopt-A-School initiative is part of our broader mission to foster sustainable growth and development in Nigeria’s education system.

“So, we are dedicated to creating an environment where children can learn and thrive,” he added.

This project, he stated further, marks another significant milestone in the Adopt-A-School initiative for us as an organisation, which is already improving learning conditions in the previous adopted schools.

Adedeji, in a statement, promised that Stanbic IBTC would through the innitiative continue to commit its resources towards improving shaping the lives of future generations.

In his speech at the event, the chairman of the Local Government council, Aminu Ladan, commended Standard IBTC Holdings on the gesture, saying the impact of the intervention on students, teachers and the community would last for a long time.

He promised that the school would put all the facilities to good use.
