The old girls of St. Annes School, Ibadan, under the auspices of the Seminary St. Annes School Old Girls Association (SSASOGA), celebrated Childrens Day with the students of the school.
The event took place on Monday on the schools premises in Ibadan, with the old girls and teachers celebrating the students and admonishing them with words of encouragement and wisdom.
The president of SSASOGA, Mrs Funmilayo Kehinde, stated that the students are special to them and that was why the association and the teachers are labouring to give them the best they can offer. She urged the teachers to continue to make sure the students are the best in what they do so that they will be distinguished among their peers.
The immediate past national legal advisor of the association, Mrs Tolulope Aroloye, briefly spoke about her days as a student in the school. She prayed that the students would reap the fruit of their years in school in good health and good grades. She also prayed for the labour of the teachers not to be in vain.
The immediate past president of the association, Mrs Similola Onabanjo, stressed that it is only good things that can be celebrated.
She enjoined the teachers and the old girls to continue to help the students the best way they can be.
Before you can excel, before you can be good ambassadors, before you can be accomplished and be further celebrated, beyond this childrens stage, it all rests with you. You are the reason for your own success, Onabanjo said.
The Ibadan branch chairperson of SSASOGA, Mrs Funmilola Oyekan, said the students are lucky to have old students who are there to celebrate with them. She said the world belongs to them and whatever they can make of it depends on their work.
The principal, St. Annes Senior School 1, Mrs Moradehun Olatunji; the principal, St. Annes School 2, Dr Olasumbo Savage; and the principal, St. Annes Junior School 1, Mrs Bimbo Akinyemi, spoke to the students, admonishing them to uphold good morals, values, and principles that will distinguish them and the school.
They told the students that they can achieve greatness and that SSASOGA aims to thrust greatness in them by living the exemplary life of greatness, an example of peace, joy, hard work, and an example of giving back to their alma mater and society.
The student welfare secretary of the association, Mrs Bolawa Adeosho, said the school is there to support and hold the hands of the students as they navigate this phase of their lives. She added that knowing right from wrong is key to making the world and society a better place.
She charged the students to be honest, respectful, and hardworking, adding, Whatever foundation you lay today, that is what you will reap tomorrow.
St. Annes Senior School 1 principal, Mrs Olatunji, announced that it was an exciting moment and a double celebration for the students, the old girls, and the staff because the students of the school who participated in the march past at the stadium today (Monday) won the trophy cup for the first position.
In the course of the event, there were competitions and games among the different houses of the school.
For the quiz and spelling bee competition, St. Faith House came first, while St. Margaret and St. Catherine came second and third respectively. For the reading contest, St. Mary came first, while St. Catherine and St. Hilda came second and third respectively.
For the dancing contest, St. Clare came first, while St. Mary and St. Faith came second and third respectively. For the writing contest, St. Margaret came first, while St. Hilda and St. Faith came second and third respectively. Finally, for the singing competition, St. Mary came first, while St. Faith and St. Clare came second and third respectively.
