“No state that values its independence can ignore the needs of defensive modernisation” —F. Fukuyama
BY saying “Proliferation of arms in the hands of citizens is what will spike violence that will lead state into anarchy “is but a blatant lie. In histories, despite the ancient kingdoms being well fortified by the available armies and knights, every household managed to store some weapons for self defence and other unwanted events. That did not in any way bring about anarchy.
Until when our terrains are well protected, we will never find it easy to be contented with the level of the Nigerian security. Taking a look at the security situation in the country, it sounds irrational to ask people not to obtain weapons.
It is a fact that security in this country has drastically derailed to an extent that everywhere is unsafe, our security agents are not enough to ensure our safety, their weapons are also out of date to perform the tedious task of modern counterterrorism action and they lack the morale to stay firm in the battle ground.
These are part of the reasons people need to protect themselves.
Furthermore, it’s pertinent for one to know that the unwell equipped security men with sophisticated weapons don’t have the temerity to face the devils using latest technology.
So with such deteriorating social plights coupled with negligence over the national defence affairs which is bedevilling the lives of the common man in Nigeria, depriving them right to own a means of self-protection is nothing but an unjust and implausible plot which will later warrant a condition that will lead to the ultimate withering of the state.
Therefore, it’s high time our government paved the way for people to get weapons and enjoy the sweetness of self-defence whenever merchants of death feel the whims to ride upon our poor and weak yoke.
