Our correspondent who monitored the exercise at Emause house by Athur Eze Avenue Awka, the Anambra state capital, gathered that the Congress was peaceful and well attended by the party supporters.
Nigerian Tribune further gathered that the process which was conducted by the party National Caretaker Committee headed by Hon. Anthony Iyortyer was also monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, the police and other security agencies.

The immediate past chairman in the state who chairs the state Congress committee, Mr. Vincent Obi, in his opening remarks said that the SDP, National Caretaker committee had directed that the state caretaker committee should allow his committee to conduct the congress.
He explained that the conduct of the Congress was in line with the provisions of the SDP constitution and described the exercise as the right step to victory for the party in the 2019 general election in the state.
A total of 34 leaders were elected as the new state executive committee members with Dr. Webster Okonkwo emerging as the chairman.
While Hon. Felix Eke Vice Chairman, Hon Benson Mgbike secretary, Barrister Okechukwu Okeke Publicity secretary, Ireh Sunday Treasurer, Hon. Jerry Nwabia Vice chairman central, Hon. John Onyimonyi vice North, Hon. Edwin Nwokike vice chairman south, Hon. Fredrick Okoye Financial Secretary, among others.
Okonkwo, who addressed journalist after the exercise, commended the organisers for the peaceful conduct, saying that it was devoid of
friction.
