The Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has forwarded list of 39 commissioner nominees and Special Advisers to the State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation.
Sanwo-Olu sent the names today, Friday, which marks the end of the 60 days from the day of inauguration on May 29th provided by the constitution as the deadline for the submission of Commissioner designates.
According to a source, the list comprises politicians, youths, technocrats and 30 percent allocation to positions for women.
Responding to inquiries, the source said, ”The Commissioner-nominees have been sent to us. On the list are 39 names of women, youths, technocrats and seasoned politicians who have paid their dues. At least, women got 30% of all the numbers sent to us for confirmation.
” The truth is, we are going to seriously scrutinize these nominees because we want the best for our dear state.”
Meanwhile lawmakers in the State have adjourned indefinitely since the July 11th plenary session.
Chairman, House Committee on Information during the 9th Assembly, Hon David Setonji has assured, “The moment or date the Governor officially forwards his gubernatorial nominees is admitted as long as it follows the constitutional provisions.
It doesn’t matter whether we are in recess or not. The House of Assembly doesn’t go on vacation or recess, it is the plenary that is temporarily suspended but activities are still ongoing, committees are still working and staff are still very much at work. To top it all, the Speaker can call off vacations or recess at any time. For emphasis therefore, the Lagos State House of Assembly as an institution of government doesn’t close its doors. “
