The dethroned 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, has extended an invitation to district heads to attend the traditional durbar event in commemoration of Sallah.
It will be recalled that there are currently two Emirs in Kano: the reinstated Emir Sanusi Lamido, who occupies the main palace, and the dethroned Emir Aminu Ado Bayero, who occupies another palace along State House.
The announcement was made in a circular signed by Alhaji Abbas Sanusi, Galadiman Kano, a senior councilor of the emirate, on Tuesday.
The circular, dated June 10, 2024, directs all district heads within the emirate to bring their village heads, horse riders, and praise singers to the festivities. The event is scheduled to take place at Aminu Ado Bayero’s palace at Gidan Nassarawa on Saturday, Zhulhijjah 9, 1445, equivalent to June 15, at 11 a.m.
The announcement reads: “We are directing all the district heads of the emirate to come along with their village heads, horse riders, and praise singers for the festivities.”
The circular emphasizes the importance of promptness and compliance with the directive, noting that any delay or insubordination will not be tolerated.
Following the day’s court session, the Emir will hold a meeting with all the district heads in the palace’s hall at Gidan Nassarawa to outline the details of this year’s durbar activities.
This traditional event is a significant cultural celebration, marked by colorful parades, horseback riding, and various forms of entertainment.
The circular also mentioned that local government chairmen had been informed to facilitate the smooth transportation of the district heads into Kano metropolis for the event.
