The Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, on Monday, slated July 8, 2020, to hear an appeal brought before it by the former chairman of the  Rivers State caretaker committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abott Ogbogula.

In the appeal, which ought to be heard in Rivers State and transferred to Abuja last week,  Ogbogula is challenging the judgement of the Rivers State High Court that declared Igo Aguma as the APC Caretaker Committee chairman in Rivers State.

When the matter came up yesterday before the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal,  there was a clash of representative as two lawyers, Chigioke Adidi and Ezekiel Egbo announced their appearances for the APC.

The quick intervention of the national legal adviser of the party (APC), Dare Oketade who was also in court calmed down the situation.

Counsel for the appellant, Tuduru Ede, told the court that there were two applications pending and that both applications were filed on 26th of June, 2020.

The first application, he said was for abridgement of time for departure from the rule to enable him to compile records of the court and the second one was for a  retaining order of the court against Aguma pending the determination of the appeal.

But Aguma’s counsel, Emeka Etiaba (SAN),  raised an objection to the applications, on the ground that they were not ripe for hearing.

After hearing submissions of parties in the matter, the three-member panel of justices of the Court of Appeal, led by Justice Steven Adah and adjourned the matter till July 8, 2020.
