Two billion, three hundred and forty-six million, one hundred and thirty-three thousand, two hundred and forty-five naira (N2,346,133,245) would be ploughed into what has been described by the National Commission for Refugees (NCR) as resettlement city, in four geo-political zones of Nigeria.
According to the 2022 appropriation document, the amount covered resettlement city, rehabilitation and re-integration projects in two Northern regions and two other regions in Southern Nigeria.
Already, one billion naira has been expended for the “resettlement city” project by the National Commission for Refugee (NCR) in four regions of Nigeria. The amount according to the federal government has performed above eighty per cent.
The amount represented over a 50 per cent increase of the previous year’s expenditure.
The 2022 appropriation Act, showed thus: “ERGP 18152816 resettlement city, rehabilitation and re-integration projects in Northwest, Northcentral, South-south and Southwest zones ongoing N2,346,133,245.”
The 2021 appropriation Act captured it thus: “ERGP18152816 resettlement city, rehabilitation and re-integration projects in Northwest, North central, South-south and Southwest zones new N1,000,000,000.”
Further checks by the Tribune Online on the performance of the Appropriation document, showed that the figure has performed by over eighty per cent, according to the Minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmed, when she presented the budget breakdown.
According to her, the 2021 capital budget had enjoyed 83% capital releases and performance.
Also, the internally displaced persons in the North East would be locked in with returnees from Bakassi for the N200m budget to continue the ongoing expenditure for which N140m in the 2021 fiscal year.

While for the 2021 fiscal year the appropriation Act reads “ERGP 22105916 IDPs resettlement in North East & Bakassi returnees ongoing 140,000,000.
Tribune Online investigation, further revealed that Nigerian taxpayers would bear the cost of N900m to maintain the internally displaced persons camps in the six geo-political zone.
Already, maintenance of the IDP camps has cost Nigerian taxpayers about N750m to maintain last year.
2022 Appropriation Act was captured thus: “ERGP 22106165 sustainable empowerment, care and maintenance for IDPs, refugees and migrants in the six (6) zones ongoing 900,000,000.”
The budget Act for 2021 captured the expenditure incurred by Nigerian taxpayers as “ERGP 22106165 sustainable empowerment, care and maintenance for IDPs, refugees and migrants in the six (6) zones ongoing N752,000,000.”
