The House of Representatives on Tuesday passed the N1,783,823,708,392 Statutory Appropriation Bill for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) at Second Reading.

A breakdown of the proposed budget shows that N150,353,906,168 is allocated for Personnel Costs, N343,779,677,448 for Overhead Costs, and the remaining N1,289,690,124,776 for Capital Projects for the service of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, for the financial year commencing January 1 and ending December 31, 2025.

The money bill was subsequently referred to the Joint Committees on Federal Capital Territory and FCT Area Councils/Ancillary Matters for further legislative action.

According to a communication from President Bola Tinubu, conveyed in a letter read by Speaker Abbas Tajudeen on May 6, 2025, the proposed budget aligns with Section 299 of the 1999 Constitution, which grants legislative authority over the FCT to the National Assembly.

He said: “I hereby present the 2025 FCT budget proposal to the House of Representatives for consideration. The 2025 FCT budget proposal prioritizes investment in healthcare services, job creation, youth empowerment, social welfare services, education infrastructure, as well as increased productivity in agriculture.

“Our objective is to lift as many of our citizens out of poverty as we can.

“The House of Representatives is invited to note that, based on projected revenue for the FCT, a total expenditure of N1,783,823,708,392 is proposed for the year 2025.

“As such, 85% of capital expenditure is dedicated to the completion of ongoing projects, while 15% is allocated for new capital projects to sustain ongoing efforts at providing basic infrastructure and social amenities in the FCT,” the letter read in part.
