THE crisis generated by the move to recall the senator representing Kogi West senatorial district, Senator Dino Melaye, continued on Wednesday as the people of the district asked the lawmaker to wait for verification instead of discrediting the process.
They also said the recall exercise was advancing and would be pursued to a logical conclusion.
The people, who spoke under the aegis of Aggrieved Kogi West Constituents, Cornelius Olowo, said the senator was only jittery about the exercise that might lead to his vacating his seat in the senate.
It would be recalled that Melaye had claimed that some dead people signed the petition submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), seeking to recall him.
But Olowo urged the senator to allow INEC fix the date for the verification and see whether dead persons would come for the exercise.
He said, “Two years is enough to assess a senator and see if he is performing or not, for the first time in the history of Nigeria a senator will be recalled and we will pursue the exercise to a logical conclusion.”
Olowo, who was a house of assembly candidate in the last election, however said the protagonists of the recall process had taken their time to collate the signatures for the recall.
According to him, the people were not satisfied with the performance of their senator, saying that propelled them to come out in large number to sign the petition.
Olowo also said it was wrong to have used the names of Okun leaders to discredit the recall exercise.
