The Kwara State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed appreciation to its leader, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, for spending the first 10 days of the holy Ramadan and Lenten season in the state.

In a statement signed by the party’s state Publicity Secretary, Olusegun Olusola Adewara in Ilorin, the party noted that Saraki did not distance himself from the masses, saying that he offered respite by staying amongst the people and providing hands-on leadership.

“We recall that even before the commencement of the Ramadan and Lenten periods, Dr. Saraki had deployed more than 10 truckloads of raw food items, groceries and other essential commodities to Kwara State for onward distribution to communities across the 16 local government areas.

“These items were strategically distributed to ease the burden on households, particularly the less privileged, during this challenging economic period.

“These 10-day #IftarWithSaraki initiative was a unifying platform and a carnival-like gathering where thousands of Kwarans broke their fast daily with Dr Saraki. Young and old, Muslims and Christians alike, thronged his residence without restriction, transforming the private home of the former Senate President into a centre of communal solidarity and spiritual reflection.

“Each day featured sermons, prayers and progressive conversations on the future of Kwara, alongside a well-coordinated arrangement of delicacies.

“During  this period, our leader also deployed high powered delegation to Woro community following the devastating bandit attack that claimed over 200 lives, with 179 persons abducted and several houses, including the palace of the community head, set ablaze.

“We wish to emphasized that though Saraki has not been in government in Kwara since 2019, he has never ceased to identify with the people or support them in moments of hardship. This is leadership beyond politics.

“Our party appreciates our traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth and women organizations, political associations, transporters , artisans, market men and women, and community groups from across the 16 local government areas who continuously demonstrated solidarity through their prayers and physical presence throughout the 10 days of Saraki’s presence in Kwara.

“The Kwara PDP acknowledged these contributions to the collective Kwara project and prayed that Almighty Allah continues to protect Dr Saraki from all evil machinations, grant his secret prayers during this holy month of Ramadan, and sustain him with good health and wisdom in the years ahead”.
