The 1985/1991 old students association of Queen‘s School, Apata, Ibadan on Friday commissioned and donated a newly renovated and equipped sickbay.
According to the president, Taiwo Adeniun, the project is put into consideration because of the need for a sound mind in a healthy body.
She added that the #7.6 million project is a way of affirming the health and safety of the girl child.
She said, “This project is a no-brainer considering the nexus between the health facility and our previous renovation of toilet facilities in 2016. While in school we were always told of the need for a sound mind in a healthy body, so doing this project is our way of affirming the health and safety of the girl child
“From conception in June 2021 to groundbreaking in November 2022 and now to commissioning the project spanned 21 months and cost us about #7.6 million sources from memberships levies and soliciting funds from friends, families and professional colleagues. We planned to do more but we were constrained by the realities of the harsh economic situation of the country I am confident that we shall do more in the years ahead.”
She however appreciates members of the set for making the project a reality and as well appreciates the school management for the support given during the project.
Adeniun, however, seek help from the Oyo state government in the employment of a qualified nurse for the newly renovated sickbay.
Speaking at the event the Oyo state Commissioner for Health, Dr Bode Ladipo lauded the set for the project.
While he noted that the sickbay would offer opportunities for the students and staff through the provision of first aid and pledged that the state government will look into intervening with the provision of a qualified nurse for the school sickbay.
