CONFERENCE of Autochthonous Ethnic Nationalities Community Development Association (CONAECDA) has stated that the Federal Government used the opportunity of what happened in Tudun Biri community in Kaduna State to announce another Fulani-herders centered programme called Pulaku Initiative.
The CONAECDA, in a statement signed by its secretary general, Dr Suleiman Sukukum, said the explanations by public officers, including the vice president that it was a new initiative designed to build ranches, houses and infrastructure as a soft approach to dealing with the so-called herders’ and farmers conflicts, was worrisome.
It said that public officers in Nigeria have failed to realise that being in the public office is a trust and that public trust is required for any public project to succeed.
The conference advised that any non-kinetic approach to the Yan-Bindiga terrorists and herders/ farmers conflicts should have adequate inputs from the armed forces, the traditional rulers, the cultural associations, including Fulani organisations and religious leaders.
It called on the Federal Government to document and make public what the Pulaku Initiative is all about so as to enable communities make objective decisions on how to relate to the initiative.
