FORMER governor of Ogun State, Chief Gbenga Daniel, has advised Governor Dapo Abiodun, to probe all anomalies as regards road and model school contracts awarded by the immediate past administration of Senator Ibikunle Amosun.
Daniel dropped this hint in his goodwill message during a reception organised by Ijebu Heritage Group for one of their own, Abiodun, the newly elected governor of the state, at the Awujale’s Palace, Ijebu-Ode, on Sunday.
The former governor noted with dismay that a whopping sum of N1billion was allocated for the construction of a kilometre of road and a total sum of N26bn spent in the construction of models schools spread across the state.
He said most of the projects are misplaced priorities at the expense of other infrastructural development begging for attention.
Daniel said many of the bridges and visible roads constructed by the Senator Ibikunle Amosun administration were too on the high side, and therefore must be reviewed in the interest of good governance.

The former governor said, “Our past Governor constructed visible roads and bridges at exorbitant prices (I am informed that the average cost of those roads is approximately N1b per kilometre.
“The maximum cost I could remember during my time was N50m per kilometre. Yet I cannot see the difference in the quality of those roads that should warrant a cost at 20 times our going rate.
” I, therefore, think that in the interest of good governance it might be inevitable to look into some of these anomalies, regrettably but even more regrettable is the fact that some of the bridges are misplaced priorities as there is no traffic to justify some of those dual carriage bridges and there may not be in the foreseeable future.”
The former governor commended the new government for declaring a state of emergency in the education sector and equally asked it to borrow from some of the policies of his administration in moving the State forward.
The Awujale and Paramount ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona represented by the Dagburewe of Idowa, Oba Yinusa Adekoya, admonished the new governor to be accountable to the people.
