On Thursday, the Local bourse Index rose by 0.14 per cent with a gain of 10.67 per cent year-to-date to close at 47,272.27 basis points.
Equities trading at the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) closed bullish to reverse the previous day’s loss, driven by investors’ interest in Seplat stocks.
Market breathe for the day under review was impressive as the local bourse recorded a higher number of 25 gainers than 18 losers.
On the performance chart, E-Tranzact enjoyed positive sentiments as it gained ten per cent to lead the best five performing stocks in the session.
Also, Seplat, Courtville, Vitafoam, Guaranty Trust Holding Company, United Bank for Africa and Zenith Bank closed positive as the value of their respective shares rose by 7.49 per cent, 3.85 per cent, 2.18 per cent, 1.51 per cent, 0.58 per cent and 0.19 per cent, while International Breweries, Honeywell Flour Mills, FlourMills of Nigeria, United Capital, Nigerian Breweries and Dangote Sugar closed negative having depreciated by 4.55 per cent, 3.87 per cent, 3.64 per cent, 1.41 per cent, 0.41 per cent and 0.29 per cent.
Performance across sub-indices was however mixed bag as the NGX Banking Index and the NGX Consumer Goods Index fell by 0.27 per cent and 0.61 per cent respectively, while the NGX Insurance Index and the NGX Oil/ Gas Index
rose by 1.01 per cent and 3.85 per cent respectively. The NGX Industrial index remained unchanged.
Meanwhile, market activity was positive on Thursday as the volume of stock traded rose by 47.70 per cent to 340.67 million; also, the value of stocks traded increased by 10.44 per cent to N3.86 billion.
Custodian was the most traded stock by volume at 39.17 million units, while MTN Nigeria was the most traded stock by value at N588.82 million.
