The decomposed body of a 70-year-old man, Ignatius Anaekweze, has been recovered from his rented apartment in Umueneche Villa Awka, Anambra State capital.
Anambra State Police spokesperson, SP Mohammed Haruna, who confirmed the incident in a statement in Awka, on Sunday, said the corpse of the deceased was discovered by one Onyedika Nwankwo who reported at Central Police Station in the state capital.
SP Haruna said Onyedika Nwankwo of Umueneche Villa Awka reported at Central Police Station Awka that he perceived an unusual odour oozing out from one of the rooms in his yard upstairs on Saturday.

He said Nwankwo traced the odour to the room of one Ignatius Anaekweze who is a co-tenant in the house.
Nwankwo was said to have called on neighbours who assisted to open the door whereupon they saw the decomposing body in the room.
SP Haruna added that police detectives from CPS Awka led by the DPO visited the scene and confirmed the incident.
“Photographs were taken and the corpse was deposited at Amaku hospital mortuary for autopsy.”
He said the police did not see any signs of struglle neither did it observe any foul play from a critical analysis of the crime scene.
