Suspected killers of a grassroots politician and member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ifeanyi Godfrey has been arrested by the police.
The victim was killed on April 16 in his office at the Western Funeral Home Limited Cemetery in Ijede Local Council Development Area of Ikorodu at the heat of the primary election of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) in Ijede.
The suspects, 34-year old, Olarewaju Adesanya and three others including Owolabi Sodiq, 28; Michael Shittu, 28 and Olaide Opeifa were paraded on Friday at the FCID annex, Alagbon for the murder of Godfrey, 52, who was personal assistant to Hon Onamade Oluwatosin, a chairmanship aspirant under the platform of the APC in the Ijede Local Council Development Area of Lagos State.
According to the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Alagbon, Annex Lagos state, AIG Usman Alhassan Belel, the suspects have been terrorizing and assaulting residents of Ijede and its environs.
Usman said the police have established a case of murder, unlawful possession of firearms, malicious damage, public assault causing occasional harm, a threat to life and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace against the suspects.
During the parade, Adesanya, leader of the gang who is popular as ‘Maja boy’ confessed that he hit Ifeanyi with a wooden rod to death.
“On the 16th of April, 2021, we went to the Western funeral home to attack the owner of the business who was an aspirant in the local government election that was held two weeks later. Unfortunately, he was not at the office but we met his Personal Assistant who was the victim. We engaged in a fight and hit him with a wooden bar until he died.”
